Beauty is a luxury we crave but can’t always afford. In fact, the average woman spends a hair-raising $50,000 over her lifetime on her ’do, a British survey says. Let us help you stretch your look-good budget with these tips:

Pad time between your hair appointments. Or go to your favorite stylist for major reshaping only three times a year. In between, ask to have an assistant trim.

Skip shampoos. Or decide to skip the blow-drys.

Go off-hours. Some salons charge less on slow days (usually Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) or in after-hours training sessions.

Dial down your color. It’s less expensive to get golden or partial highlights a few times a year than to have a drastic single process that requires monthly upkeep.

Grow longer hair. Cuts that are chin-length or above need trimming every six to eight weeks; longer hair, less often.
