With pool and beach season in high gear, are you lamenting a swimsuit “muffin top”? Forget about crunches: You can get a flat tummy without a single sit-up. “Engage your core in whatever you do,” says David Kirsch, trainer and founder of the Madison Square Club. Here are some simple moves to try:
Stand up straight. Mom’s advice was right. Standing up straight and sucking in your abs can not only improve your posture but also your abs.
Try yoga. Kirsch calls this move the yoga plank: Start in a push-up position, holding the upward part of the push-up. Tuck in your belly for 10 seconds, then release. Repeat. Tuck it in for a bit longer each time, for up to a minute.
Lose the love handles. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, hands behind head and hips locked. Rotate side to side from your torso, holding each rotation for a second.
Watch your diet. Stay away from coffee, diet soft drinks, dairy, processed carbs and any sugars.
