Just about every store needs to unload extra inventory after the holidays — some more urgently than others. Experts say these are your best bets for deep discounts this month:
TVs. Last season’s flat screens are about to get the heave-ho to make room for new versions released at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show, the industry’s biggest annual trade show. But get your new TV early in the month — prices may rise again closer to the Super Bowl on Feb. 3.
Toys. A stuffed teddy bear may be timeless, but few will want this Christmas’ hobbit action figure next year. Stores have no alternative but to mark down toys tied to a movie promotion to get them off the shelves while they are still relevant.
Seasonal decorations. Ornaments, dried wreaths, fake trees, wrapping paper, bows: Shop now and you’ll save 50% or more off pre-holiday prices. Of course, you’ll have to figure out where to stash your supplies until next season!
Furniture. Stores restock with new models this month (they do it again in July). Name your price on a table or recliner — you may be surprised at how willing the sales clerk is to negotiate.
