“You have to keep things moving in the right direction,” says 10-time Grammy winner Chaka Khan, who has been in the biz for 40 years. Khan will be honored with the Living Legend Award at the Howard Theatre Restoration’s gala and benefit concert April 19 in Washington, D.C.

The star singer of I'm Every Woman, who turned 60 last month, credits a mostly vegan diet (she makes an exception for her sister’s green beans with turkey) for keeping her physically fit and “more apt to be up to the task.” Right now that includes co-parenting her 12-year-old granddaughter and prepping a new CD.

The iKhan Project: Alive! The Commemorative Edition is due July 2.
