With Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons and noted Irish actress Sinťad Cusack for parents, itís no surprise that Max Irons, 27, is an actor. He plays King Edward IV in the miniseries The White Queen, now airing on Starz. Itís based on Philippa Gregoryís historical novel series The Cousinsí War.

ďInitially my parents were anxious because itís such an unpredictable profession,Ē Irons says, ďbut when they saw I was serious they said, ĎThe key is to keep working, keep learning. Donít pay attention to the superficial side of the business. Itís very easy to get caught up in the hype. Donít take yourself too seriously.Ē

Irons credits his parents for ďcutting me off financially when I was 18, although at the time, it was annoying.Ē Sometimes he just scraped by with non-acting jobs. His worst? ďBartending,Ē he says. ďIn England, when you get tips, itís at the ownerís discretion whether or not you receive them. Ours would rather keep them herself. I was earning 5 pounds (about $7.50) an hour.Ē

He listened. ďI donít want to move to L.A. because it can be an unhealthy environment for an actor,Ē he says. ďIím staying in London and keeping my friends close. I donít read reviews, and I donít go to parties all the time. I pay attention to the work.Ē
