Not many people make cakes from scratch anymore — the convenience of a packaged mix is too hard to beat. Reader Connie Schachel of Pomona, Mo., has found a way to make box cake mixes even more time-efficient.

Instead of pulling out wax paper to grease the cake pan, “put your hand into the [empty mix] bag, and then use the bag instead,” she says. “When you’re done, turn it inside out, and it’s a handy catch-all for the shells of the eggs in the cake.” That’s thinking outside the box!
