Co-anchor, Entertainment Tonight

What: O’Dell is the national vice president and the ALS national ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The MDA is an umbrella advocacy group for neuromuscular diseases such as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Why: An MDA clinic diagnosed O’Dell’s mother, Betty, who died in in 2008, with ALS. “We were completely lost,” O’Dell says. “They put us in contact with the right doctors, physical therapy. They guided us. So to be able to do something with MDA ... so no other family has to go through this.”

How: Tune in to the MDA Show Our Strength Telethon, airing Sept. 1 on ABC. For more information, visit als-mda.org and bettysbattle.org.
