Readers will flip over the way Susan Kieffer of Asheville, N.C., prolongs the life of refrigerated items like cottage cheese, sour cream, yogurt and ricotta. “I turn the container over and tap it on the counter each time I use some of the contents,” she explains. “This way, there is no air at the top and the contents remain fresh for a longer time.”
To keep leaky messes to a minimum, Kieffer places the overturned container on a plastic lid to collect any seepage.
