After a summer co-hosting the top-rated La Voz Kids on NBC’s Telemundo (the Spanish-language youth version of The Voice), Daisy Fuentes moves seamlessly into New York’s fashion week.
The Cuban born/Harrison (N.J.) High School homecoming queen who grew up to be an MTV VJ and fashion mogul will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of her Kohl’s fashion line Sept. 11 at Grand Central Station. “It was like the wild, wild West,” Fuentes says of the early days, when “licensing/branding was very new. ... I thought it was just going to be a bit of a hobby on the side. Little did I know it was going to turn into a huge business.”
So how has she grown it into a $300-million-a-year business, when other celebrity lines seem to come and go? “I’m making fashions I want to wear,” says Fuentes, 46. “I started in my closet and talking to the women in my life. You get to know your customer, who is not very different from me and my friends.”
