How will he stand out in the pack of late-night talk show hosts when he returns to the mix Sept. 9 after a 17-year hiatus? “It will really be Arsenio inserted back into an environment that’s been updated,” says Hall, 57. “The bottom line is every night or every day with Ellen or someone, you make a choice as to who you want to hang with.”

This time around, Hall will rely on the help of a “creative consultant” — his son Arsenio Cheron Hall Jr., who turns 14 this month. “He’s the only kid who when you look at his iPod, he has Jerry Seinfeld downloaded. He knows what good writing is. ... He’s my kid.” The Celebrity Apprentice winner has high hopes for his first guest: “I keep trying to text Blue Ivy but apparently they say she doesn’t have a phone yet, I will probably have to text Jay Z and ask him.” In case you’re wondering, Blue Ivy is Jay Z and Beyonce’s 20-months-old daughter.
