Lisa Lillien, aka Food Network’s Hungry Girl, knows the challenge of eating smart while on the road. After all, she travels about 100 days of the year. By thinking ahead and packing healthful snacks, you can stave off extra pounds, she says. “Snacking is key to success, but it has to be smart snacking.”

100-calorie packs of almonds. “Easy to pack and store and satisfying and good for you.”

Jerky.“Not the most popular snack, but it’s one I love because it tastes good. It’s packed with protein and low in fat!”

Apples. “You can never go wrong with an apple. Fujis are my favorite! Delicious and full of fiber.”

Freeze-dried fruit. “Funky Monkey makes my favorite freeze-dried fruit — creative and crunchy with great stats.”

Quest Bars. “I tend to look for bars that are high in protein, high in fiber and not so high in fat. Quest bars are my new obsession. The best flavors are Cookie Dough, Cinnamon Roll and Apple Pie.”

Seaweed snacks. “They’re crispy, crunchy and come in different flavors, so low in calories and fun. Sesame flavor are my No. 1.”

String cheese. “A great and delicious source of protein.”

Precut veggies. “Lots of convenience stores are carrying these packs that come with pre-cut and pre-washed veggies with low-cal dips. Great stuff! Perfect for on-the-road munching.”

Popchips. “If you need chips around, these are a great choice. Not only are they ‘popped’ instead of being fried, they taste great and come in both single serving and three-serving bags. Neither choice can do much damage.”

Vitalicious VitaTops. “Chocolate cravers must keep these on hand. They are 100 calories, all-natural, high in fiber and easy to keep around. Find them in the freezer section of select markets or order online at vitalicious.com.”
