Trailer: 'Prisoners': In 'Prisoners', two young girls are kidnapped, and one dad takes justice into his own hands. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard and Maria Bello.

Yes, there were “a fairly good flurry of scripts” after Melissa Leo won the Oscar for best supporting actress for The Fighter in 2011. Unfortunately, she says, most of the roles were “to play people’s mom, as if it’s all I ever dreamt of doing.” Though Leo, 53, says she loves “being a mother and playing a mother, sadly a lot of those scripts are actually not about the mother (but) the whiny-pants kid ….”

Her next star turn is in the thriller Prisoners, opening Sept. 20. The Oscar, Leo says, gave her “a lovely strong sense of self.” As for her decidedly un-Hollywood life in upstate New York, she says, “It feels like I belong.”
