What: Thiessen is the celebrity ambassador of Read for the Record campaign by Jumpstart, a national early education non-profit organization.

Why: As the mother of a 3-year-old, Thiessen is learning the importance of reading to children, “Just 20 minutes a day,” she says, is sparking her daughter’s interest in books. Plus, “it’s a great way of connecting to your child.”

When: On Oct. 3, the eighth annual Read for the Record, millions of Americans will read the children’s book Otis by Loren Long in support of Jumpstart’s mission to see that every child enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.
