Halloween is a fun time for kids and many adults, but it can be dangerous for pets. With lots of decorations, costumes, noises and lights, some animals can become easily stressed. Jack Hanna, director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo, has a few tips:
Leave pets home. Costumes and loud noises may cause some dogs to bark or jump, Hanna says. Create a quiet space at home so kids gathering treats will not cause undue anxiety.
Nix the raisins. You may be aware that chocolate is toxic to dogs. So are raisins — they can damage dogs’ livers.
Toss wrappers. Dogs and cats may eat them and become ill, so be careful.
