Saluting the Honorees taking part in Make A Difference

NATIONAL HONOREES RECEIVE AWARDS
Paperboy Adam Chestnut picked up
donated clothing from customers during his regular paper delivery
route in Toronto, Ohio.
Two teachers rallied two communities
and the Marines to begin a huge drive to fulfill the needs of
area charities around Camp Lejeune and Jacksonville, N.C.
Elementary school students cared
enough to help children in a poor neighboorhood in Laredo, Texas,
get needed clothing.
Residents of New York City public housing
saw beyond their own needs and helped others at community centers,
Harlem Hospital and many other locations.
Mindy Elvey, a teen with leukemia,
arranged to get TVs for other kids in rooms at the Ronald McDonald
house in Altoona, Pa.
6,000 volunteers mobilized in Albany,
Ga., and put themselves to work on 175 projects in the community.
Children in trouble got help
from thousands of co-workers at the Money Store headquarters
in Sacramento, Calif. Led by Susan Giles, the volunteers raised
funds and gave the Children's Receiving Home a facelift.
Police in Bakersfield, Calif.,
rallied 300 residents to paint, clean and repair.
Good works were performed across
the state when nearly 1,100 members of the Illinois Federation
of Women's Clubs took on Make A Difference Day.
Four eighth-graders recruited
475 volunteers to help renovate a nearby homeless shelter after
feeling sad for the kids living in the Blissfield, Mich., shelter.
SPECIAL
HONORABLE MENTION AWARDS
Each of these outstanding efforts receives a $2,000 donation from
Make A Difference Day judge Paul Newman, who donates all after-tax
profits from Newman's Own to educational and charitable purposes.

AWARDS
There are honorees representing exemplary projects from every region,
in conjunction with newspapers that carry USA WEEKEND magazine.
ENCORE AWARDS
All are past recipients of national Make A Difference Day Awards,
and continue to shine year after year in helping their communities.
