Many of the nation’s top volunteers and community leaders gathered in Washington, D.C., Thursday for the 2013 Make A Difference Day Awards Luncheon, where 14 outstanding service groups, from all around the country, received $10,000 to donate to their local charities.
Meet this year's volunteer honorees!
In her first year of participation, Neha, 16, won an award for creating a library at a needy Philadelphia school.
For his fifth Make A Difference Day, Nicholas Cobb, 16, and a dozen VFW and National Honor Society volunteers swooped in with $800 worth of donated Home Depot supplies to spruce up the home of Claudette Allen, 68.
USA WEEKEND's 22nd Make A Difference Day made its mark as millions came together in the nation's largest day of service.

I've spent a lot of my career covering difficult stories — poverty-stricken neighborhoods, murders, strapped school systems. It's given me a real soft spot for inner-city kids, some of whom are trapped just by accident of birth.
